🦷🥤 Sports Drinks & Your Smile It’s Dental Health 🦷🥤 Sports Drinks & Your Smile

It’s Dental Health Week (3–9 August)! This year’s theme focuses on helping young Australians build healthy habits for life, because looking after your oral health now can make a big difference in the future.

If you’re active in sport, you might be reaching for a sports drink—but did you know they can impact your teeth?

⚠️ Sports drinks are often acidic and high in sugar, which can:
🦷 Weaken and wear away tooth enamel (erosion)
🦷 Increase your risk of tooth decay
🦷 Cause sensitivity over time

💡 Smile-friendly tips:
✔️ Choose water for hydration whenever possible.
✔️ If you do have a sports drink, keep it to training or competition when it’s needed—not for everyday sipping.
✔️ Avoid sipping it over long periods.
✔️ Rinse your mouth with water afterwards.
✔️ Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth to protect softened enamel.

Small changes can make a big difference to keeping your smile healthy, both on and off the field! 💙🦷
